Price Check

I thought you might find this interesting. One of our neighbors took it upon themselves to price check these items at Irvington Plaza Marsh, German Church Marsh and Kroger. Both Marsh stores were the same price.

Marsh Chronicles - Day 21

As I have mentioned on more than one occasion, when an East Sider puts their mind to something, things get done. It never ceases to amaze me how much we can truly accomplish when we decide to. East Siders have this awesome sense of personal responsibility which is why the Shop Marsh in April initiative has been so overwhelmingly successful. We set out to support a local grocery. Our goals were pretty simple...carry what we want to buy so we can shop at your store. In this process, we have started to change the way this corporation views this neighborhood. We have suggested they re-evaluate their decades old research on the demographics of our neighborhood and open themselves up to the possibility that we would prefer to walk to the local grocery chain to buy our whole foods rather than drive to 86th street, fight traffic (and people) and pay more.
Now I am not saying this is going to happen overnight. I am not saying that AT ALL! What I am saying is that we are making even more of an impact than I could have ever hoped for.
My boys and I walked to Irvington Plaza Marsh tonight (why wouldn't you...it was GORGEOUS out) to pick up fresh fruit;again, hats off to Marsh, your produce department was beautiful and the green grapes on sale are delicious! Earlier in the day I had a wonderful conversation with Mr. Pottle, one of the store managers, and he let me know that they would be getting in some of your requested items. While I was there, I asked if he could share the latest revenue trends YOY for me to share with you. Again, I am simply humbled to call myself an East Sider, April 1st - April 17th YOY, Marsh is up 9.34% ! This is incredibly exciting news...not only that but they are also up 631 customers over last year! I am going to get some clarification around this number as I am unclear if it is 631 new customers or if it is 631 transactions over last year. My guess is that it is transactions. Regardless, these numbers are OUTSTANDING! This is all you people! These numbers reflect your commitment to your neighborhood! I applaud you!
Ok, now that I have rambled on and on :) Below is a list of requested items that Irvington Plaza Marsh will be getting in the store by mid to late next week:
  1. Dannon Greek Yogurt
  2. 24 oz Activia - Vanilla (FYI:they carry Activia right now and it is on sale)
  3. Horizon Mozzarella Cheese
  4. 7th Generation Detergent
  5. Method Detergent
  6. Carlo Rossi Box Wine
  7. Amy's Frozen Meals
  8. Healthy Time Baby Products (variety of foods)
  9. Udon Noodles
  10. Traders Point Products (these will be arriving in 2 weeks)

Mr. Pottle did request that we be specific when requesting items. He wasn't sure on the Amy's Frozen Meals as there are many kinds. Same with wines, noodles, etc. If you have a particular brand or type please write it on the request form. As more items come in I will update you.

I applaud you East Siders! You are one person, one household, one family and YOU are making a difference!

Thanks for all you do!

Marsh Chronicles - Day 13

When Eastsiders decides to do something...we do it big!

I walked to Marsh this evening with my 17 year old son (to be able to have some one on one time with my teenager is lovely and I gladly accept the small bits he so infrequently doles out to me), we even remembered to bring our re-usable bag. The purpose of our trip was to pick up some strawberries. Lee and I had purchased some on Sunday that were delicious. Once we were there, I thought I would check with the manager to see if Marsh could give us some information on any marked increase in the store's activity.
I spoke with Mr. Paul Pottle, one of the Marsh managers, he was extremely pleasant and told me that our initiative had prompted quite a response from their corporate offices. He went on to tell me that they had received NUMEROUS Inventory Request Forms and that most of them contained organic items. He also stated that there were some items that Marsh, as a whole, did not carry and that they were researching these to find vendors to provide this store with them. We discussed a way in which he would let me know when those items came in so that our neighbors and friends could come and purchase them at the Irvington Plaza Marsh. So from now on, he will call or email me and I will post when those items come into the store on this blog.
He then donated items for our Clean Up Day this Saturday April 17th (Thank you KIBI for all you do for us!)
And that is not even the most exciting news! The whole reason I had to rush to the computer after dinner! The piece of information that absolutely BLEW MY SOCKS OFF!

Irvington Plaza Marsh has seen a 7% increase in sales over this time last year.....SO FAR!!
This is huge! We have just put an additional 7% into this store in 13 days.

I don't know about you, but this is a true demonstration of what the East Side can accomplish! I am so proud to be an Eastsider and to live in Irvington Terrace!

Marsh Chronicles - Day 11 - WOW!

My husband and I just completed our weekly grocery shopping at Marsh. One word comes to mind, WOW!
I am not sure if it is the Shop Marsh in April initiative that is making the difference or if it is that Marsh re-stocks on Saturday night. What I can tell you is that the produce department was beautiful!
Fully stocked and clean. They had everything we were looking for at comparable prices.
I had fresh cilantro on the list, and honestly was not sure if I was going to find it. I not only found it, but was able to snatch the last bunch!
Lee and I were able to get almost everything on our list (and then some), and while we definitely watched the specials and kept an eye on prices, we did not spend any more than we would have shopping at the competitor.
That is not to say that Irvington Marsh prices are not higher. They definitely are. However, by watching pricing and specials we got almost all the items on our list.
I did turn in an Item Request Form for hummus, turkey meatballs and Greek yogurt. I am sorry to say that I forgot to check on the fresh beets. Sorry Cathie, Anna and Christina! :(

I feel the need to share that I ran into 4 Irvington Terrace neighbors while shopping also. So much fun to chat and shop!

Hats off to Marsh for paying attention and listening!
Here's to another great week of shopping Marsh!

Shop Marsh - BEET LOVERS UNITE

I thought I would share this great story from Anna Chase regarding her experience with the Shop Marsh in April initiative. Please feel free to post your great stories too!

Hi, My husband Dan and I shopped the Irvington Plaza Marsh last weekend. (Ran into several of our Irvington friends. ) I’m a big fan of fresh beets but didn’t find any at Marsh, so I talked to Rhonda Chestnut, the produce manager. She was so helpful. She’s eager to carry a bigger variety of produce, if only people will buy it. She will order a case of beets and they should arrive Sat. They haven’t been carrying beets because the last case of 12 didn’t sell and was thrown out. Twelve bunches is the smallest number they can order. This time it would be great if they could be sold out-not thrown out!!! Also, Marsh had mustard greens and turnip greens on sale and were sold out. The store manager made a special trip to bring more in.

Thanks much!

Marsh Chronicles - Bike Rack

At one/several of our meetings...we have heard about the lack of a bike rack at Marsh. Since I have been to Marsh no less than 13 times in the last 4 days (why oh why can't I just make a list?!?!) I have noticed there is a bike rack right out front.
I have also had a conversation with Mr. Jordan, he is very enthusiastic about the Shop Marsh in April initiative. They have noticed an increase in sales, however, we need to keep it up for the entire month to make the impact we desire.
Who's with me? Again...let's put our money where our mouths are!
Like Cathie and I have always said....you can't complain about the president unless you vote...well Irvington Terrace neighbors and friends....here is your chance to vote!

The Marsh Chronicles, Day 2

I shopped at Marsh on April 1 and eventually found everything on my list--including some things we talked about them not having at our last meeting. Everyone was friendly and happy to know about Shop Marsh in April.

Not only that, Mr. Jordan said he has printed our inventory request forms and has coupons for us at the desk!

Feel free to comment on your experiences "Shopping Marsh in April" so far.
